Katie McCarthy, 20, of Mansfield has been training at Elite Sports Performance & Physical Therapy since May, 2014. Although Katie has only been training with us a short time, she’s quickly made a name for herself around Elite because of her strong commitment to her summer training program and friendly, outgoing personality. Katie will be entering her junior year at Colby-Sawyer College in the fall, where she plays point guard on the basketball team and is studying to one day become a physical therapist & basketball or soccer coach. Prior to college, Katie was an accomplished two-sport athlete at Mansfield High School, where she excelled in both basketball and soccer. Although her high school athletic accomplishments are too numerous to mention, she tells us that her favorite recent sports moment was Colby-Sawyer’s thrilling game against Maine Maritime in the 2014 NAC Semifinals. In addition to being an accomplished athlete, she’s also demonstrated her talent as a coach by recently leading her 8th grade girls’ team to a Metro-West Championship.
While training at Elite, Katie participates in our “Ultimate Athlete” program, which combines a personalized, sport-specific strength & conditioning program with Elite’s Acceleration D1 classes, focusing on building speed, agility, strength, and explosive power. She chose to train at Elite because she wanted to improve her speed, strength, agility, and vertical leap in preparation for her upcoming season. Katie tells us her favorite part of training at Elite is “the encouraging, friendly staff that are always around for help and motivation!” She believes the most crucial qualities of an athlete include “heart, determination, focus, smarts, and willingness to sacrifice.” From what we’ve seen from Katie so far at Elite, she embodies all of these qualities. With her strong work ethic and continued commitment to training, we know she’s going to be a force to be reckoned with this upcoming season!
