Sydney Kofton – November 2021 Athlete of the Month
Sydney Kofton, 16, of Norton, is a junior at Bishop Feehan High School and a member of the Bishop Feehan varsity girls soccer team and the Scorpions Soccer Club. Sydney arrived at Elite after suffering a torn ACL while playing soccer last spring. Since then, she has spent countless hours in the gym over the past 7 months working with Elite Sports Physical Therapist, Ben Godin, PT, DPT, SCS, following her knee reconstructive surgery. Sydney has worked incredibly hard during her rehab process and has demonstrated the commitment, consistency and resiliency that have contributed to her great success on the pitch as well. She just recently returned to practicing with her team and is looking forward to a full return to play in the near future.
In addition to being a key member of the 2019 Division 1 State Champion Bishop Feehan team, Sydney was a 2020 Massachusetts All-State 1st team selection, a 2020 Sun Chronicle All-Star, and a 2020 Catholic Central League All-Star (in addition to several all-star selections in 2019 as well!) She hopes to play Division 1 college soccer and major in accounting. She tells us that she loves soccer because “it impacts my life a lot because it helps to relieve stress and have fun.” Based on what we’ve seen from Sydney at Elite, any college program would be very fortunate to have her as a member of their team and community.
When asked how she defines a ‘true athlete,’ Sydney believes “A true athlete is someone who is humble and very passionate about their sport.” As to what advice she would give to younger athletes, she keeps it simple and recommends, “Keep setting goals for yourself and keep working hard.” When asked about her role model, she tells us, “My role model is my sister [Taylor] because she showed me you can overcome anything.” (Taylor is also a long-time Elite training client/patient and one of Elite’s very first Athletes of the Month back in 2014!) Throughout her rehab process, Sydney has demonstrated a level of maturity and resiliency beyond her years and she’s worked to overcome the recent adversity she’s faced.
As for training here at Elite, Sydney’s favorite exercise is the walking lunge (with 50 lbs!) and her favorite stretch is a quad stretch. As for what she loves about Elite, she says her favorite part is “working hard but also having fun…everyone is so welcoming and encouraging…there are great people here that will help you succeed and you’ll meet great people along the way.” Sydney is definitely one of those ‘great people’ that make the Elite community the amazing place it is, and we are so excited to honor her as our Elite Athlete of the Month for November, 2021! Congratulations, Sydney, we can’t wait to see you back on the field soon!
